Micro-credentials in a Minute Episode 9: Why Universities Should Consider Micro-credentials to Address New Markets

Robert Bajor: Hi, my name is Rob.

Martin Bean: And my name is Martin and we are micro-credential and digital badge experts.

Robert Bajor: Today, we're going to talk about why universities should think about micro-credentials in terms of addressing new markets. What do you think Martin?

Martin Bean: Headline Rob impact. Universities are overly fixated on their traditional undergraduate population. Thinking in quite traditional ways. But as we look at the world, we look at the needs of our communities, our economy, our society, our relevance learning is something that we don't do at a certain stage in our life. It's something we have to do throughout our life to be able to live the aspirations we have for ourselves and our families.

Martin Bean: And Rob, I just think it would be a crying shame if universities didn't step in to these new addressable spaces to have the appropriate - impact they should have for the future of our societies and communities and economies around the world.

Robert Bajor: Yeah, I couldn't agree more. The idea of lifelong learning is is really coming into fashion and it's for good reason. Folks are needing more opportunities and access to up-skilling and re-skilling opportunities. For socioeconomic mobility and for self-actualization. I'm glad that universities are thinking about them this way.
